These
are pictures of a wedding dress I made last year. You can
click on the little pictures to get a better view. The bride
wanted something unconventional as you can see, so here's
how we tackled it:
I went round to her house and we chatted about her ideas
for materials and styles. I drew up four rough designs based
on that first meeting so she could see what would work. The
picture on the right is an example of one of the drawings
(If you've changed it, click
here to get it back!). The four pictures really helped
clarify things and at the next meeting we soon hit on a definite
design.
At the bride's request, we went shopping together in the
indian fabric shops in Southall to get some really bright,
vibrant material.
Then
it was back to her house with the tape-measure. Armed with
the material, the design and the measurements I was able to
put the dress together within a few days, ready for the first
fitting. The dress was perfect by the second fitting but I
was on hand before the wedding for last-minute adjustments
because you never know how a woman's weight might change as
a result of stress or dieting in the last few days before
a wedding!
Of course, I've nothing against the more traditional look,
so if you'd like something white and lacy, I can do that too!
As always, it's up to you!
"I grew up having clothes made
for me by my mother. People don't realise how much better
it is. The quality of the tailoring is just completely
different. Everything is made just for me and it fits
in a way it just wouldn't if I bought it in a shop.
That's why I wanted my wedding dress to be made the
same way.
